With its continual ‘pith’ takes, satirical twists and quirky edges my work is asking you to have a chuckle.

It’s lighthearted and fun with imaginary figures, global corporations and companies, created to push my point of view. It’s political and satirical, and can often be a re-creation of the past and its events.

I love recycling found objects and timber which I carve, shape and sculpt into popular works which include surfboards and car doors, all with my original hand brushed imagery and words.

My hand weaponry is a fine selection of brushes, some I've had for 18 years plus, and of course my Mahl Stick to steady my hand.

I must say I'm very anti Computer generated word art and can see an influx of aged vintage work simulated on wood flooding the market, but be assured my original humour and satirical twists along with the HAND BRUSHED style will continue.

The medium for my Original Artwork this including the originals of my print range is on some description of Wood, old and new, I love too re-cycle timber and give a new life which is often tied into a continuing theme featuring "Sea Junk" & "Sea Treasure", with my "R3

Corporation"...Respect, Re-cycle, Re-Use."

Recently I was asked by NZ Prints why the Bicycle and my initials for my signature?

"Re: My Bike. I have always ridden a bike from a nippa and had a bit of a love affair with them, always rode to school, first kid to wear a helmet to college back in the early eighties, it was some Italian hard shelled thing which looked like a cross between a peanut and a German helmet, I was severley grilled by my peers at school, them calling me peanut! Didn't bother me too much though. The love of bikes continued into Triathlon and now days having a small collection of oldies and a love of doing them up including English bikes, such as a BSA & Triumph"

I was then asked when I first started using the symbol/logo.I wrote "The JK Bike is like a brand I suppose, it was modeled on an old Bicycle advertisement, I was never that happy signing my work as it didn't quite do it for me asthetically, so the Bike was born and I now stamp all my Art with it. I always sign my work on the back along with the date and replaced the indelible ink stamp with the signature early on round 2000, there are some early works floating round though that missed the stamp.

The images here either side are my artwork stamp and the "It's Hot" Bike, a bit of a piss take really, but I love flames, must be a bogan in me somewhere!"

I have recently had the JK bike tattooed up my right painting arm four times going from my wrist small to my bicep large with the "It's Hot Flames" style logo coming out of the back wheel. This is to show my "dedication to the love of what I do, my brand and my love of bikes."

Finally I leave you with this adage given to me by a happy client:  verba volare, scripta manet... spoken words fly away, writing is permanent.

JK The Biker

These images give JK fans a little visual insight into the Biker, how I came to love Bikes, and like alot of Kiwi kids this was born from a young age, this spans 20 odd years of triathlon and a life time of bikes and Bike collecting.

I was particulary lucky, well I think I was! to have an Uncle who raced Motor Bikes, and from a young age spectated and many of NZ's fine street races including Wanganui, Porirua and Gracefield circuits, the seed was planted for my two wheeled fascination, although my Ma said I would scream just like a bike when we would go the races as an infant.
